Inspiration
The day after the
2004 presidential election, I was sitting in a shocked room. The
folks around me were saying that they couldn’t believe that Bush won
a second term. There were numerous comments about those that voted
for him. There were also comments on how we were entering the dark
ages.
In thinking about
this last comment, I began thinking that every dark period in
history or life was followed by some great enlightenment. For
example, The Dark Ages was followed by the Renaissance, McCarthy was
followed by the 60’s, divorce by a better relationship … Somewhere I
thought of the metaphor the rainbow follows the storm.
Process
I started this song
with the chorus, the rainbow follows the storm. The verses just
flowed from that title. I wrote the song with just verses and the
chorus. Later I added the bridge. The structure is:
